Walmart Meat and Grocery Items
I normally limit my trips to Walmart to once a month but I forgot a couple of items last week so I had to return this week. I bought staple items that are cheaper than Aldi (corn tortillas, ground beef) and some items we cannot get at Aldi like the cilantro and the nitrate-free lunch meat we like.
The store was out of boneless skinless chicken breasts so I purchased chicken breast tenderloins for a higher price per pound than I like to pay. I also paid more for canned beans because I needed them for a recipe that night and I didn’t have time to soak and cook dry beans.
Aldi Produce, Refrigerated and Frozen
(not pictured: 1 gallon milk)
I stocked up on lots of fresh fruit and veggies along with my usual eggs, butter, cream cheese. I purchased ready-made hummus for a quick lunch and some frozen sausage patties for easy breakfasts.
Best Produce Deals:
bananas 44 cents/pound
celery $1.29
fresh spinach $1.79/bag
grape tomatoes $1.40/pint
baby carrots 79 cents/pound
Aldi Grocery Items
I was super excited to find unsweetened applesauce again at Aldi. I bought two this week but I plan on stocking up on more next week. I also splurged on a jar of Kalamata olives. I can’t seem to get enough of these lately!
To get a jump start on my meals for this week:
I added 1 package of chicken thighs and 1/2 package of chicken breast tenders to the slow cooker with 1/2 bottle of bbq sauce for BBQ Chicken Nachos that night.
I placed 1/2 package of chicken breast tenders in a glass bowl with olive oil, fresh lemon juice, fresh rosemary and a little garlic salt to marinate for a couple of hours in the fridge. I sauteed the chicken and served it over salad for lunch.
I placed 1 package of chicken breast tenders in the oven to bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. I let the chicken cool and then shredded it to use in Crunchy Chicken Salad for dinner the next night.
Weekly Total: $132.42
March Monthly Total: $265.48
($125/week budget for six people so I am over budget again for this week. Hopefully I can get back on track next week! )

One helpful hint I learned from my Venezuelan mother-in-law is to quick soak beans for an hour instead of overnight, and then cook them in a pressure cooker. Its so fast that way and saves money since you can buy dried beans!
Thanks for the tip. I like to soak mine longer in order to ease digestive issues, if you know what I mean. 🙂
