It’s the time of year when we all think about making a wish list.
I remember as a child my grandmother would pull out the Sears and Roebuck catalog and ask me to find what I wanted for Christmas that year. I would look through every section of that 200 plus page book but I spent the most time looking through the toy section, circling each item that I liked and then carefully turning down the top corner of the page so she could be sure to find my work. I had high hopes and expectations.
What fun to visit her on Christmas day with the house decorated, special food set out on beautiful dishes and gifts all wrapped and sitting under the tree. I would always find several items that I had circled and it was such a good feeling to receive what I had wished and hoped for.
As adults our wishes become bigger than the toy aisle. We wish for tangible items like a trip to an exotic location or a big screen television but we also wish for those items that cannot be purchased in a store like peace, happiness and warm family relationships.
While it is natural to think of what we want during this time of year it is also important to think of others and there are so many who are in need around us. We hear the Salvation Army bell ringing outside our local grocery store, receive the multitude of letters in our mail box from charities and see the segments on local television about the needy. It is easy to become “immune” to the needs and to shut down but I want to encourage you to look around you and find at least one person or group that you can help this season.
Capitol One has a relatively painless way for you to give this Christmas. Through their Wish For Others campaign you can share a wish that you have for a friend, family member or neighbor and be entered to win your wish for them.
Simply share your specific wish with #WishForOthers on Twitter, Instagram or the Capital One Facebook page now through December 23 for a chance to make it come true. If you’re not sure what to submit you can check out Wish For Others to see the heartwarming and funny wishes that others have submitted so far.
Let’s make some wishes come true this Christmas!
