10 Minutes A Day Decluttering: My Progress & A Tip to Help YOU Declutter
Covered up with STUFF? Join us for the 10 Minutes A Day Decluttering Challenge! We are taking just ten minutes a day to remove clutter from one area of our homes to simplify and make space to live our true priorities.
“I am convinced that clutter and disorganization are two of the greatest hindrances to staying focused on any vision or objective.”–Janice Van Chronchite, artist
My Progress
We are preparing to move so I am cleaning out as much as possible.
This is the stack of stuff we gathered last week to donate: books, clothes, shoes, knick knacks. Some of it is actually sentimental, but I am giving it away because keeping things for the “memories” associated with them is actually draining emotionally, mentally and spiritually. I don’t want to live in the past!
If you have some items to which you are emotionally attached, but which don’t really fit your life anymore, try setting them aside in a box for a month. If you don’t miss them, go ahead and take the items to a donation center. Your peace is worth it!
Did you make any progress this past month? Have any projects you want to work on?
Leave a comment–we’re in this together! 🙂 (You can also leave a link to photos of your progress or your new project!)

So easy to just “stick it in a drawer” – Out of sight, out of mind…
I have started taking one drawer a day and cleaning it out and organizing what stays! Great therapy!
I really like that idea Gwenfred!
I sorted through my closet and have 4 bags of clothes to take to Goodwill. Tomorrow I start on the spare room, 10 minutes a day and see how far I can get.
Good for you Gloria!!!!
I dread going home tonight because of the 6 moving boxes of books in my living room. We’ve emptied 8 bookshelves and will (all in all) get rid of 10 BIG boxes of books, DVDs and CDs. I love it 🙂
Woohoo! Good for you Andrea!
I packed up a tote full of things that dont fit in my life anymore but still were full of memories that I just couldnt let go of…. that was over a year ago. I have been thinking about just taking it all to good will without opening it but I dont know if I can do that. I decided I will look through it but I am only allowed to keep 5 things if anything at all. I know in a couple of months I will revisit the shoe box and get rid of those last few things, but its hard throwing memories from college and pre-baby life away (But I have to make room for baby #3! and filling our house with our family memories are much more important!) Plugging a long slowly but I have to be decluttered by January!
Good for you for taking action Ashley! You can do it!
Just gave a way a working kitchen aid blender that had been sitting in a cabinet for years! We have a local yahoo freecycle group and someone needed one… I was glad to have extra space in my kitchen and help out someone who could really use it.
with items that have memories associated with them, have read a suggestion to take a picture of those items instead of holding on to the items themselves.
Great tip Sharon! Thanks for the reminder.
You are moving again! You poor dear! I feel your pain – I decluttered enough stuff before our last move to fill our local donation box several times but it felt so good to let go and not have all that stuff to move! Now I’m still trying to declutter the 3 packed to the rafters sheds down to only 1. Thanks for the motivation!
