10 Minutes A Day Decluttering Challenge: June Update
Covered up with STUFF? Join us for the 10 Minutes A Day Decluttering Challenge!
We are taking just ten minutes a day to remove clutter from one area of our homes.
(If you’re thinking,”It’s only 10 minutes. Why bother? ” Click here to read “Why 10 Minutes Can Change Your Life!”)
Decluttering our junk creates comfortable energizing spaces in our homes, which enables us to simplify and live our true priorities rather than being drained by stacks and piles of stuff!
No matter how bad it is, you can make progress by focusing on one area and committing to spend just 10 minutes a day sorting items to throw away, give away and keep!

My Progress
Okay, it’s just sad. (I posted the photos of previous projects above to try and make myself feel better, but a pint of Ben & Jerry’s would have worked better.)
Honestly, I was very unmotivated to do anything after having such a busy life the previous six weeks, but I was at least able to take these two bags of give away items to the local thrift store. Thank goodness the children felt like getting rid of some toys and clothes or I would have nothing to show you!
Yet another embarrassing confession– This is what my hall closet looks like:
You know that place that you stick everything that you don’t know what to do with? Yep, that’s the place.
My plan is to work 10 minutes a day to get this monster tamed. We have company coming in next week, so I may only get a little bit done, but I will keep you updated.
Did you make any progress this past month? Have any projects you want to work on?
Leave a comment so I can rejoice with you, or so we can cry together! (You can also leave a link to photos of your progress or your new project!)

doing something is better than doing nothing 🙂 I finally did my yardsale in June and moved a ton of stuff out, then donated almost a full truckload of leftovers. I took a week off but now Im back working on a pile for the next sale(in September when the weather cools down)
Good for you April! I don’t have the patience for a yard sale.
Okay so maybe it took me more than 10 minutes but here is some motivation for anyone who needs it, I moved in a hurry and ended up with an entire room full of stuff that needed to find a home, a lot of it should have never left our old place to begin with. For a whole month I ignored it until I finally made up my mind to start working on one box a day. It felt like I would never finish but I kept attacking one box at a time until I finally ended up with a nearly empty room! It may not seem like much but slow and steady wins the race 🙂
Woohoo Alma! Way to go! Doesn’t it feel awesome to have that done? 🙂
It does feel great! I have before/after photos at http://aconqueredmess.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-monster-mess.html?m=1 nothing fancy but if I got through that whole room you can definitely get through your closet 🙂
I’ll check it out. 🙂
I love these posts! Even if you “failed” this time, I stay motivated knowing I’m not alone. I may have to start taking pictures to keep track of my accomplishments!
I am so glad that my failure can motivate you Kim–haha! Yes, please take photos and link them up. 🙂
My kids are both in camps this week and for 3 glorious hours on Monday and again on Tuesday I was all alone in my house:) Monday I was able to completely reorganize my pantry/laundry room and on Tuesday I made a lot of progress in the basement storage room where I have just been piling clothes people give me for my kids. Both look so much better and it’s so nice to be able to check things off my list. I feel your pain though. With 2 five year olds (1 boy, 1 girl) I do a lot of running and referreeing so I’m usually not that motivated to tackle decluttering.
Good for you Jamie! I think looking at that closet motivated me to actually get moving. 🙂
