Please Note: I post my weekly menu to encourage menu planning and to give meal ideas, not as a nutritional standard. You should feed your family based on your priorities and values. A bunch of these look really good! Can’t wait to try them.
I was doing the math and it seems really difficult to fit all of these meat meals into $125. I know prices vary so I guess I’m wondering what types of places you get meat from around where you live? Out here in MA if I want to make burgers (which sound delicious right now!) for the 7 of us, I know I am going to spend a good part of my budget for the week on hamburger as it’s expensive. Any ideas?
Great question Jessie! I normally buy meat only when it is on sale, so we don’t have burgers because we “feel like it”, but because ground beef was on sale. This week I bought ground beef that was not on sale, but I purchased it at Aldi because they have the lowest price in my area. If you can’t find meat on sale, you can compensate by making a couple of cheaper meals that week like beans and rice, cheese quesadillas or grilled cheese and soup.
You can also ask your local grocery store when they mark down their meats and shop at that time to take advantage of the markdowns. Hope that helps!
By the way, you can see my shopping for this week here: https://thepeacefulmom.com/2013/04/12/my-shopping-totals-for-this-week-grocery-saving-tips/ along with some tips to save on Groceries. Also, when you are making burgers, you can stretch the meat by adding some oats and seasoning like onion soup mix to the ground beef. 🙂
I forgot how much little things like chocolate chips make things seem so special. Mango chicken looks yummy!
Thanks Michelle–it is!
Just made the crockpot granola this morning and family loves it. I used pantry items and didn’t spend an extra dime. We will eat this instead of purchasing cereal this week. Thanks for the great recipe. I get really excited when I can cross an item off my grocery list without spending money. I’m just weird like that! Have a great weekend.
I am so glad you liked it Cheryl! And welcome to the Weird Club!
