How did you do this week? Link up your savings posts below or leave a comment!
Yes, some, such as hamburger or pork chops. None ever get as cheap as $1.69 though. Groceries are expensive in general. There is just DH and I in our home, and two cats. We struggle to keep our grocery bill under $550 a month. That is with buying sales and using coupons whenever possible. I could see if we lived far north where everything has to be flown in, but we are in Nova Scotia. Although seafood is cheap during the season, it’s our only bonus, lol.
I’ve been reading alot of blogs about saving money on groceries lately to try and learn some good tips. So far the best one I’ve just started is to stock up when items are on sale. I used to just buy one of two items when they went on sale. Now I’ll buy 10 to hold us over until the next sale. That seems to be helping.
Thanks for all the good information on this blog! 🙂
You are very welcome Nichanda. That is actually the way I save the most money too. 🙂
I love the blog – I just found it a few days ago.
However, I must say, I’m totally jealous of $1.69/lb chicken breast! We pay $8.99/lb regular at the local grocery store or $3.99/lb at a discount meat market when it goes on sale (which is an hour drive away). I live in Canada (where everything seems more expensive). Chicken breast is one of the most expensive meats here. Ugh.
What a great deal!!
Wow–that’s crazy. I am guessing that there are other meats that are cheaper though, right?
I was super excited last week, because I managed to go $90 under what we had budgeted for food. This means that we are learning to be more frugal and careful in our food choices. We read the ads almost religiously now, where we’ve never had to do that before (as we lived overseas and relied on the military commissaries). I will say your blog has been absolutely KEY in helping me achieve this goal.
I am so excited for you Erin and so glad that I could be a part of your success! Thanks for taking the time to let me know.
I found some boneless skinless chicken today for $1.50 a lb and I was running low in the freezer and had some room in my grocery budget so I grabbed up 15 lbs! Seeing your chicken made me think of it:)
That’s an awesome deal! Have you seen my post about what to do with all that chicken 🙂 ? https://thepeacefulmom.com/2011/08/19/easy-meal-planning-chicken/
I love finding the overripe banana deals! They are the best to use to bake with or freeze!!
