Take TenTM-Improve your life ten minutes at a time!
“The key to success whether you are trying to lose weight, break a bad habit or save money on your grocery bill is to consistently apply small changes over time.”
p. 27 Save More, Clip Less
One way I incorporate this principle of small changes over time is to choose a weekly project to work on ten minutes a day. Knowing it’s only ten minutes helps me to get started–even if the project seems overwhelming at first. Working on the goal daily helps me to develop discipline (hate the word, love the effects!).
Last week I planned to work on this mess for ten minutes a day:
My first step was to sort through the items in the large white “project box”.
I spent ten minutes on Monday making a Valentine’s box for our V-day leftovers (napkins, cards, cupcake liners). I also put the Easter items in a container. These were placed on a shelf in our hall closet.
I spent ten minutes on three other days going through the rest of the project box, as well as the papers and coupons on the counter, and putting them where they needed to go.
Today (Sunday) I finished dealing with the remaining papers and then cleaned the counter with my new DIY Citrus Cleaner. Sanity is restored! Now if I can just keep it looking this way. 🙂
This week I’ll be spending ten minutes each day decluttering a different area of the house. My bedroom will be first and then I will move to other areas as I have time.
Would you like to join me in a ten minute a day project this week?
Choose an area you want to change or a project you have procrastinated on starting. When you decide what your Take TenTM project will be, you can leave a comment on this post to let us know what you’re planning–the more the merrier!

Thank you for your great ideas! I have been looking around my house and realize things that I liked a few years ago don’t mean the same to me now. I am beginning a plan to reduce clutter and head toward a minimalist home. It is just me, and I am terrible at laying things down and never picking them back up…. You are encouraging. This is my big weekend to clean and glean and get rid of things I have. I will let you know in a week if I made it…
Good for you Karen! I would love to hear back from you how it goes. You can do it!
I am following you on Linky from Blogalina!
Thanks! I’m following you back. 🙂
HATE packing for things. The unpacking is less of an issue but since we’re heading out of town on Sat, I’m just going to do it for 10 mins at a time (it may take more than 60 total minutes to get packed for everyone so it may be more than once a day). Actually, I started last week on the car part and have a clean car stocked with snacks already…=)
Great 10 minute a day project Shannon!
