I normally don’t go to five stores in one week, but all of the stores are within two miles of my house and I had lots of time so I purchased only items at the lowest available price at each store.
I stopped by a local grocery store to grab the roast at $2.99/lb which is the lowest price for our area. I will cook one this week and put one in the freezer for next week. The marked down steak from Walmart will go in the freezer as well.

Great inspiration! Thanks for sharing all these wonderful resources. I’ve been working diligently at this for the last 6 months since DH is only working part-time and money is a little tight. Last week’s grocery trip $78.00 for a family of 5! I was stoked and we ate great all week. 🙂
That’s great Julie!
I wish I could shop like this! Alot of the coupons I see are for processed junk foods, which I don’t keep in my house. My husband is laid off right now so money is so tight for us. Whatever savings we did have is pretty much now gone due to his lack of work and our lack of money. I think we spend the most on groceries. Can you help me? A lot of good coupons we do find don’t double up, and we can usually find a cheaper brand when it comes to coupons. What gives? I buy all fresh produce and organic where I can..which yes I know is more expensive but I’ve done a lot of research and don’t want to put certain foods into my body. Do you have any advice on how I can keep my food budget down?! Please help!
Hi Bridget! Have you downloaded my free ebook Save More Clip Less? Here is the link: https://thepeacefulmom.com/2011/08/19/free-e-book-save-more-clip-less/ . You can also read my post here on saving on organic produce: https://thepeacefulmom.com/2010/04/12/save-on-organic-produce/. Hope this helps!
I am brand new to having Celiacs and noticed you had the Jiffy cornbread mix. Is that GF or is that for other family members?
Sorry Andrea. The Jiffy Mix is not gluten free. I made a casserole for everyone else and my daughter ate chili that I had previously prepared. I have seen some gf cornbread mix recipes on line, but my daughter doesn’t really like cornbread so I haven’t made them.
Nicely kept to budget!
Thanks Clare. It happened to work well this week. 🙂
This is just SO inspiring! I can’t wait to get our family on a budget that actually works for us. Thank you for sharing all of your experience.
Thanks Kellie!
Wow! I thought *I* was frugal. I spend about $500 per month on groceries and toiletries/necessities for three people, and we live in an area known for a low cost of living. We do eat a special diet, and my s/o eats like a horse, but still…I’m impressed.
Thank you. We do have food in the freezer and pantry that I purchased previously in the $100 budget so that helps. 🙂
