I am new to the meal planning and have to tell you I LOVE it! It makes grocery shopping a breeze. I have one question on your $100 weekly budget. Does this include non food items such as detergent, trash bags etc? I have having a really hard time cutting the cost of certain items. I have started stock piling body wash, toothpaste and deo. and that has saved up a lot.
Just wondering if I was missing a trick or two. Thanks for the great ideas and inspiration.
That’s great Denise! I only include food in our $100 a week budget. Up until this last year I was able to include non-food items in that amount, but now I have to spend the entire $100 to keep us fed!
I spend an average of $20 a month on non-food items like detergent, toilet paper and toiletries in addition to the groceries.
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! 🙂
Awesome job this week! As a middle school teacher, I can imagine that feeding 3 teens could get realllllllly expensive without coupons and sales! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Christine!
Thanks for this post…you are encouraging me to get stronger on my meal planning and shopping. what day do you meal plan? Do you always use the same three stores?
Thanks again for all you do!
That’s great Kristen! I try to always do my planning on Wednesday and my shopping on Thursday or Friday morning at the latest.
I have three primary stores: Walmart, Save A Lot and Publix which I usually visit every week. I also go to Winn Dixie and a local Hispanic store if they have any really great deals. I try to only shop at four stores at the most in a week and some weeks I only shop at one or two or price match at Walmart if I’m really busy. I don’t price match every week because many times the really good sale items at other stores aren’t carried by Walmart or the sales are Buy One Get One Free which Walmart doesn’t honor.
Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions you have. 🙂
