One great way to have fun and make memories as a family is to go camping.
It’s also one of the cheapest ways to vacation. Our family loves camping and we have a few good stories to tell.
One year when our children were small, we camped with another family in Rock Springs, Florida. Our van was parked about 6 feet in front of our tent and our friends were about 10 feet to the left of us. We heard some commotion during the night, but didn’t think anything about it.
The next morning we awoke to hear this story from our friends:
During the night, the mom of the family had to go to the bathroom. She left her tent and turned around to see a large black bear at a picnic table a few feet away. She realized that they had left their styrofoam cooler out and the bear was devouring the contents of it.
She turned back around and tried to whisper to her husband to unzip the tent, but when he tried the zipper got caught and she couldn’t get back in the tent for several minutes. Thankfully the bear didn’t really notice her.
Imagine our surprise when we went to get something from our van and saw two clear bear paw prints on the back! Evidently our little furry friend had been looking for more food. Remember, the van was only feet away from us!
We have many more fun memories of our times spent camping. On our latest adventure we were the only family using camping tents. EVERYONE else had a camper or RV. We had several families come to talk to use just because we were using tents.
No matter how you do it, camping is always a fun adventure and a great way to bond with your family.
One night we were sitting around the campfire, laughing and having a great time. Here comes a skunk, oh yeah!!! I’m so serious. We all just sat there and waited (while holding or breaths) for him to finish sniffing around. He finally left and our hearts pounded so hard. It seemed like the longest minute o our life. I love camping.
