An Amazing Feeling

Yesterday my husband and I had an unexpected date night.  We try to go at least once a week, but schedules, finances and exhaustion sometimes have other ideas!  Last night, not only was the date unexpected but what happened afterward as well.We had a coupon for one restaurant only to find it closed.  We prayed about where to go (yes, we even pray about little decisions because you never know when God might want to use you!) and decided on Applebees.

As we went in I felt that God had us there for a reason, so I kept praying and looking around.  Finally our waitress came to the table and I felt that maybe she was the reason we had come in.  We chatted briefly throughout the meal and at the end of the meal found out that she is a single mom with three small children who lost her management job and is now working as a waitress.  WOW!

I immediately thought about a Dave Ramsey radio program in which a family gave a $100 tip to a single mom waitress. We are fans of Dave’s philosophy of “Get Out of Debt and Save More, So You Can Give More”, but I think we were waiting for the day when we have lots in savings and a really big income before we became big tippers.  I realized that that day was going to be the day we started.

We spoke to the manager to make sure he knew that it was not a mistake that the tip was several times larger than the check and he thanked us and told us that it had been a really rough week for her.

I can’t tell you the amazing feeling we felt as we left, so humbled and honored to be used by God to bless another person!  It really made me want to do it again soon.
