In my last post (here), I shared the benefits of journaling and how it has helped me personally. Today I’d like to share some things to keep in mind if you are just beginning to journal.
You Won’t Be Graded-Don’t worry about grammar or spelling. Simply write what you’re feeling and allow your mind to wander wherever it needs to go.
Practice Makes Perfect– Journaling is most helpful when you do it on a regular basis. Schedule a regular time for writing, like first thing in the morning or right before bed. Just don’t beat yourself up if you miss a day.
Keep It Private– To be most effective, a journal must be kept private. If you’re afraid that someone might read it, you may not write honestly about what’s bothering you. In addition, if someone does find it and reads entries that you never meant for them to see, your relationship could suffer. Find a safe place to keep your journal to protect yourself and your relationships.
Why not give journaling a try?
No need to buy a fancy diary, start with a composition notebook or simply type on your computer. You may find that you are more at peace and better able to work through your emotions. Can’t everyone use a little more peace?
