An easy way to save money on groceries is to make your own mixes. Last week I shared a recipe for taco seasoning. Today I want to give you a few other recipes.
Chili Seasoning Mix
2 Tbs chili powder
1 tsp salt
1 Tbs seasoned salt
1 tsp onion powder
2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp oregano
Mix all ingredients and store in a small, airtight jar in a cool dry place. Add to bean dishes and chili mac as well as traditional chili.
Homemade Shake and Bake
1 c bread crumbs
1/2 c flour
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp poultry seasoning
1 tsp paprika
salt and pepper to taste
Combine ingredients and store in a sealable container. This mix will keep up to 4 months in the pantry but you may want to keep it in the freezer. To use: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Place one cup mix in a plastic bag. In a bowl, mix an egg and 1/2 cup of milk. Dip chicken pieces one at a time in the milk mixture, then shake one at a time in the plastic bag.
Place chicken on a baking pan and bake for 20 to 30 minutes depending on the size of your chicken. Bone in chicken may require up to an hour.
