{Update: I no longer use coupons or shop CVS. You can read my ebook Save More–Clip Less: Feed Your Family for Less Without Extreme Couponing to find out why.}
I never pay for toothpaste. Want to know why? CVS has a customer rewards program called Extra Care and it is the main reason that I get FREE toothpaste and other toiletries.
To begin getting your own free toothpaste, follow these steps:
1. Sign up for an ExtraCare Card in-store or on-line. (in-store is faster)
2. Link your card to your email account and look for coupons in your email. These are usually for an amount off purchase (Ex: $4 off a $20 purchase), but they also send coupons for free items from time to time.
3. Check deal websites for the best deals and scenarios for combining sales, coupons and Extra Care Bucks (ECBs) for the upcoming week.
4. Scan your card at the kiosk located in the front of the store every time you enter to receive additional store coupons.
Store Policies:
- Extra Care Bucks will print on your cash register receipt can be used like cash to purchase items in-store or on-line.
- ECBs cannot be used to purchase certain items like gift cards, postage stamps, money orders and other items. Check the official store policy for all the details.
- You cannot receive change from an ECB.
- ECBs cannot be used to pay tax.
- ECBs usually expire within 14 days after they are printed.
Your goal is to buy the items which are free or close to free and use your Extra Care Bucks from one week to pay for the items you buy the next week, thereby “rolling” your ECBs to minimize your out of pocket cost.
