Please Note: I post my weekly menu to encourage menu planning and to give meal ideas, not as a nutritional standard. You should feed your family based on your priorities and values. You may not be able to replicate this exact menu for $125 because sales vary by region and you will have different items on hand, but you can save money just by using a menu.

Just don’t understand how you can go out to eat with the family and still keep your weekly budget under $125! If I and the boys (3 + hubby) go out to eat we are looking at around 80 dollars for the meal! That sure doesn’t leave a whole bunch for meals for the rest of the week. Where do you go eat?
We can’t do this every week, but I had purchased lots of groceries last month on sale (within the $125 budget), which we are still using now. That left more room in the budget this week.
I buy items when they hit their lowest price and stock up for later in the month, so if you look at the menu there are lots of starred items that I had in my pantry, fridge and freezer which meant that I did not have to buy everything this week that we will be eating. (You can read more about all the strategies I use to save on groceries in my FREE ebook Save More-Clip Less: Feed Your Family for Less Without Extreme Couponing here.. I am also serving cheaper meals this week.
As far as how we eat out for less– we use coupons, we drink water rather than soda and our two youngest sometimes split a meal. We also get discounts at some restaurants through my husband’s employer, so that helps. We just ate out last night for $60 including tip, so $48 came from the grocery budget and the other $12 came from some extra money my husband made this week. What we do may not work for everyone, but I share in order to give people ideas that they can apply to their own situation. I also don’t have 3 boys (who probably eat more than my girls).
I want to thank you for sharing your budget and menu ideas. They have helped me get a handle on our grocery budget and I feel like I am doing my part as a stay-at-home mom to take care of my family and feed them healthy, delicious meals… just by a little advance planning. Bless you and yours and Merry Christmas!! I’ll be checking in often for more ideas!
Woohoo! Thanks for letting me know Jennifer.
I don’t know… I would think my 3 boys (13, 10, and 6) eat less than 3 teens and a pre-teen. LOL! Thanks for taking the time to write it all out for me.
Going back through your menu, I see that you don’t have bunches of fresh veggies… they can get so expensive! We spend around what you do, but we can’t add in the out to eat stuff and stay within budget (usually) that is why I asked.
I think I burned them out on the veggies last week: http://thepeacefulmom.com/2012/12/07/fun-friday-shopping-totals-grocery-saving-tips-127/–LOL!
Thank you for sharing. I think you have great ideas and I fashion some of our weekly meal based off of what you post. Thanks again, you are inspiring!
Thanks for letting me know Mary. I’m glad to help.
